twenty one pilots – Blasphemy lyrics
I start to part to halves of
My heart in the dark and I
Don't know where I should go and
The tears and fears begin to multiply
.

Take a time in a simple place,
On my bed, where my head rests on a pillow case,
And it's said that a war 's led but I forget that
I let another day go by.

I want to be afraid,
But it seems that these days,
I'm caught under water,
And I'm falling farther,
My heart 's getting harder,
I'm calling my Father,
Am I screaming to an empty sky?

Empty sky, no way that's me,
'Cause one half of my heart is free.
Empty sky, no way that's me,
'Cause the other half of my heart's asleep.

[Chorus]
Sing a song, but don't believe.
Blasphemy is just for me.
Hypocrite, take your pick,
'Cause the poison 's on my lips
Can I understand you? (4x)
[End Chorus]

Lights, camera, action.
Satisfaction at your fingertips,
No one's lacking stuff,
But it's not enough when it seems
We have enough stuff just to blow stuff up.

Lights, camera, stop!
We're killing ourselves
Just to get to the top
,
And we wont stop talking about what we got,
And how we all love it when we're loved a lot.

Enough about you, let's talk about me,
And everybody thinks I'm just so free.
Free? Did you hear the verse that came first,
And how my whole body 's waging a war on me?

I bet you didn't know something that's absurd,
There's a word I've said more than any other word.
It's sorry. I'm sorry.
And I pray that the word was heard.

[Chorus]

I want to be alive,
When you see my eyes,
Can I see your eyes?

Can I see your eyes (5x)

I want to be alive,
When
you see my eyes,
Can I see your eyes?
Can I see your eyes?

Let the water...
Wash away...
Everything that you've become.
On your knees...
Today is gone...
And tomorrow is sure to come.

Tomorrow is sure to come
.

I just heard this for the first time tonight and I feel it’s very similar to what I’m experiencing right now. I feel like he is at his lowest low and feeling an indescribable amount of pain and sadness, always pleading and praying for help from God but feeling like he’s alone and God and no one can hear him. Days will keep coming and going and he realizes he’s barreling suicidal thoughts but finds his head still on the pillowcase every night overthinking and struggling to rest. His faith is shaking and there’s one part of him that wants to know and trust God/Jesus and understand Him, but this other sick and hurt part of him feels alone and like he’s pleading up to an empty sky and wondering if h there is anyone listening and helping him. Like wanting more than anything to be saved by Jesus, but not understanding how or understanding Him or believing it can happen. It’s a really confusing and dark place to be in.

Hello, it's me again. I wrote the last meaning. I'd like to re-write it in a more efficient way, now that I've seen other examples. Then again, Tyler wrote this is in the times of when he was depressed. To me, the song makes him seem as if he's schizophrenic. Why? Because he mentions that he "parts two halves of his heart" and raps that: One half of his heart is free, but the other half of my heart is free. Meaning that he almost has to parts of himself. One being that, he's just this depressed young adult writing songs, and the other being totally suicidal. He's half-alive as you would call it. This is because the feels the "sickness" in him. And it's making his life harder. Thank you for reading! Then again, shout out to all the people who had a better explanation than me!

I don't understand a lot of this song. Although I have been listening to 21 pilots since 2019, so I know a bit. A lot of the songs Tyler wrote in No phun intended was when he was depressed. He keeps saying "war's led but I forget that" and "my whole body's waging a war on me." Basically, him talking about his body, and how there's a war, means that he's sick. Or, he's trying to interpret that he's dying. Empty sky, no way that's me, means that he's out of it. He's totally "zombified" in other words, he's "half zombified" One half of my heart is free, but the other half is asleep (dead). This is only my interpretation. Shout out to the other users that had a better explanation than me!
