Jack Stauber – Two Time lyrics
[Intro]
(Give it a little attack-tack)
(Listen!)

[Verse 1]
We could leave the lights on
Sun tan

We could get lunch
Aw, man

I think that I like you
(You do?)

Yeah
But something bugs me 'bout the way you lick your envelopes so

[Chorus]
I'm out on the block again
So hopped up that I can't pretend

Two time
Stay friends
Problem that you can't defend

Hands up, feel okay
Whose heart could I break today?
Two time
Stay friends
Problem that you can't defend
Oh...

[Verse 2]
Slip me in your pocket
Chew the way out
Oh man, was that your last piece of gum?
(Come on!) But we both wanted some
I know, and you can get in the hole too
E-R, what can you say
I never read the package anyway

[Chorus x2]
I'm out on the block again
So hopped up that I can't pretend

Two time
Stay friends
Problem that you can't defend
Hands up, feel okay
Whose heart could I break today?
Two time
Stay friends
Problem that you can't defend

For me, yes, I agree it is about cheating or "two-timing" on your partner hence the title 'Two Time.'

From the feel and style of the song, the speaker / singer appears to express feelings of somewhat cheerful recklessness in how he knows he is cheating and yet likes it. Let's break it down, shall we?

"We could leave the lights on, Sun Tan"
I believe this refers to how some lovers prefer to leave the "lights off" when they are making love if they feel insecure or just don't want their partner to see them when they are most vulnerable. In this case, the song seems to imply that in leaving the "lights on" he wants to be open and out with his relationship with the third party and wants to be more open instead or always hiding and in the dark, literally and figuratively. He also seems to want to take a step further and want the person he's cheating with to trust him and be open. "Sun tan" probably refers to their geways and cheating moments which probably involved days at the beach being together and the speaker reminisce this.

"We could get lunch. Aw, man.
I think that I like you (you do?)
But something bugs me bout the way you like your envelopes so".

I believe this centers more on the main character's (let's call him mc) relationship with this lover he's cheating with. He wants to spend more time with her but she would turn him down at times hence his disappointed 'aw man' probably because of the other party also is a bit hesitant to be with him.

The mc believes he does like the one he's cheating with (let's call her cp for cheating partner) and admits it to her but confesses he's unsure esp with cp's more traditional, patient, and romantic ideals as seen in how she still makes and keeps envelopes and is "old school" and he's not sure if he can commit to another when he's cheating right at this moment.

I thought at first that cp is willfully cheating with him but then I realized she probably doesn't know he's a taken person and is actually a traditional, romantic type. Hence, this causes the mc discomfort because he does really like her and wants to be open with their relationship but he's not sure if he can live up to it and commit to her since even now he is cheating and he's bothered with her romantic ideals because he's worried if he can even commit to her since he's already cheating with her and yet she's stuck in this romantic ideals and he feels uncomfortable if cp finds out he's cheating with her.

I'm out on the block again.
So hopped up that I can't pretend.
    Two time.
    Stay friends.
    Problem that you can't defend.
    Hands up, feel okay.
Whose heart could I break today?
    Two time.
    Stay friends.
    Problem that you can't defend.
    Oh.

Now, here it is revealed that this cp to his actual partner (Lets call her op for original partner) is just a friend. Meaning op thinks cp is just mc's friend and thus he says "stay friends" because to the public eye everyone thinks they're just friends".

He also admits that he is going to see her again and could no longer hide how he feels hence the "so hopped up I can't pretend". He can't even pretend he's "just meeting a friend" because he's that excited to see her. He mentions again that he knows he's two timing under the guise "I'm just meeting a friend" and he knows this whole this is a messy problem but it's not something he can talk to someone about and he knows he's the bad guys hence "problems that you can't defend" because everyone who sees him will blame him for cheating no matter what he says.

In the last line, "whose heart will I break today?" It seems that either someone already knows about the affair or the word somehow got out and rumors are spreading and he's getting ready to face the wrath of his two lovers. He knows that someone or even a lot of people will get hurt and it's only a matter of time before people find out but nevertheless as stated in the chorus "I'm out on the block again so hopped up I can't pretend" that he can't even pretend to be sad by this fact because he's just too happy to meet with his cp that even if he knows this whole this is messed up and lots of people will get hurt especially op,even if he knows what he's doing is wrong and is problem, he'll still continue to do so since he doesn't know what else to do. All he knows is that he really likes cp.

Tldr: Basically he's cheating on his op (original partner) with his cp (cheating partner) because he really likes cp but can't really leave op to commit to cp because he's afraid he will only break her trust since how can he even trust himself to. Commit when he's cheating right now with his current op on cp?

He wants to spend more time with cp but cp doesn't know he's taken and cp wants a more serious and committed relationship with him. Not knowing what to do, he continues this cheating, and even though he knows it won't stay secret forever and both cp and op's heart will be broken because he rationalizes that he can't really do anything because he's afraid of hurting them and chooses to hide and be quiet about it instead or breaking up with op to be with cp. He also thinks no one will understand his problem and would just judge him so he refused to seek advice or do anything about it and instead just goes on with life, meeting up with cp claiming she's "just a friend" but no longer able to really hide his happiness and he knows it's inevitable that they'll find out, but he continues to cheat anyway and leave cp in the dark even if at the first line, he wanted to things to be out in the open.

I think that he's the one being cheated with in this case. So he has this girl that he likes and they're friends with benefits, and he doesn't find out that she has a boyfriend until later.

The first paragraph makes the most sense with this: "we can leave the lights on" rather than off like you would do for sex and "we could have lunch"--he's trying to go from being friends with benefits to something romantic (trying to go out on a date and all that). The "I think that I like you" shows how he feels, and she's surprised when she says "you do?" and so he's like '....yeah...but I guess it wouldn't work out anyway,' when he realises that she doesn't like him that way at all. And quite frankly, the whole 'I think I like you' exchange makes no sense with the whole 'he's cheating' theory, at least in my eyes.

I'll get back to the chorus later; here's the second verse. So "slip me in your pocket, chew the way out" is pretty clear, she's got him under her thumb (in her pocket, wrapped around her finger, etc.) and he realises he needs to get out of this relationship. I think the 'last piece of gum' bit refers to the sex in some way, with the other two who wanted some 'gum' being either the girl and her boyfriend or other guys that she's cheating with. Unsure about that one, since I can't tell if the voices are both male or if one is female. If they're both male voices, then def it's about her sleeping around and then maybe getting caught (it's her last piece of gum aka last time getting some wink wink). Not entirely sure. But anyway, the hole is the big pitfall he's falling into, the ER is the ER, and him not reading the packaging is him not knowing that she's already taken and/or that she was never interested in him romantically.

The chorus is really hard for any theory I think, so I'mma take a stab at it and pray.
So when I first heard 'hopped up', I assumed he meant he went on the block and got high, honestly, to try and "feel okay." Could be wrong about that, but the dude's on some sort of acid to make the videos he does so. Two time obviously refers to the theme of the song, not necessarily that he's a two-timer, "stay friends" is probably him trying to go back to normal after everything that happened, and I can't really explain "whose heart can I break today?" except as a reference to him breaking his own heart (falling in love with someone who would never love him back) or as some sort of lashing out (he's upset and wants someone else to feel the way he does). For me, what really cements him as not being the cheater is the line "problem that you can't defend" rather than "problem that I can't defend". They're similar enough that if the original line had been the latter, it wouldn't have sounded off, so Jack clearly chose 'you' for a reason.

Lastly, as a counterargument, who the heck says 'stay friends' to someone they cheated on? Like yeah, some cheaters can be terrible people, some are just people who make REALLY bad choices, but that's some next level garbage.

Anyway, it's 2 am, this song never made sense and never will, and my brain hurts.

    Somniance
    My interpretation:

I do not believe it has to deal directly with cheating, but rather with being two-faced about intentions with new partners. The singer is cavalier about jumping into new relationships, but non-committal. Because of this, it causes much strife for this new girl who appears to have fallen for him. "I think that I like you...but something bugs me 'bout the way you lick your envelopes, so-" He is interested in her, but he is unable to reciprocate her feelings.

He looks for excuses to leave, something as miniscule as the way she licks her envelopes is reason for him to depart. This is reinforced by the chorus: "Two time, stay friends, problem that you can't defend." He wants to exit the relationship, the excuse he uses is so plain that his new friend is unable to respond in a way that can convince him. Based on the following lyrics, it is also not the first time he's done it. "Hands up, feel okay, whose heart could I break today?" The upbeat tone but somber lyrics point to the singer being aware of this damaging behavior, yet nevertheless consigned to proceed as though it is simply his nature.

This also seems to be referenced in the second verse in a confusing, roundabout way. "Put me in your pocket, chew the way out." She believes he is now hers, yet he is committed to escape. "Oh man, was that your last piece of gum? But we both wanted some!" This lyric is confusing, but the gum being taken appears to reference their romance, both himself and the relationship as a whole. The singer was her last piece, she has no one else to go to. "But we both wanted some (the romance)," to which he responds, "I know, and you can get in the hole too." She can share a sense of loss as he departs. "ER, what can you say? I never read the package anyway." He is flippant about his behavior, not acknowledging the damage he causes by his actions.

    My opinion:

We could leave the lights on-!
    Sun tan.
    We could get lunch?
    Aw, man...
I think that I like you... "You do?"
Yeah, but something bugs me bout the way you lick your envelopes so...

Okay, So. It starts off with him being young and afraid of the dark. WE ALL WERE.
They imagine that they're sun tanning. I suppose this means that he's saying that childhood was much easier.
BAM Middle School. He falls in love with a girl and asks her out to lunch. He gets turned down, hence "Aw, man..."
Adult-hood. He gets married at 23 years old. He feels suspicious of his wife, though, because they're making cards for something, and she's licking them shut- but sexually...

I'm out on the block again!
So hopped up that I can't pretend!
    Two time.
    Stay Friends?
    Problem that you can't defend.
    Turns out.. Feel okay!
Whose heart could I break today..?
    Two time.
    Stay friends?
    Problem that you can't defend.

He found out about his wife cheating. He goes to a bar to make himself 'feel okay.' His ex-wife asked if they could stay friends, planning to make him love her and cheat on him again, but he refuses because he knows what'll happen.

    Slip me in your pocket...
    CHEW THE WAY OUT.
Was that your last peice of gum? (Come on!)
    But we both wanted some!
I know, and you can get in the hole too.
    E-R what can you say?
I never read the package anyway!

She bribes him back with 'one last piece of gum,' which she slipped a drug into. The hole is a metaphor for being manipulated into love. It's like he keeps falling farther and farther... He gets extremely sick from the gum, to which when he heals up, his ex-wife says "E-R what can you say? I never read the package anyway!" He runs away.

I'm out on the block again!
So hopped up that I can't pretend!
    Two time.
    Stay Friends?
    Problem that you can't defend.
    Turns out.. Feel okay!
Whose heart could I break today..?
    Two time.
    Stay friends?
    Problem that you can't defend.

While he's running, he remembers everything happening, as he views himself as a fool for ever loving anyone. It repeats twice, showing he's been running for a while. He finally stops at a city, where he can re-shape himself. He finds a music shop, and he becomes the world-famous Jack Stauber.

    GUESSED SONG MEANING:
Let’s start at the title: Two-time. That means an unfaithful spouse or lover.
Let’s skirtt to the first part of the song:.

We could leave the lights on.
    Sun tan.
    We could get lunch.
    Aw, man.
I think that I like you.
    (You do?)
But something bugs me bout’ the way you like your envelopes so.

What appears to be happening is that a person is planning a day with who seems to be a spouse or lover, but the main singer seems to not take the relationship as seriously, which shows when they don’t like the way their spouse licks their envelopes. It could mean something else, but that’s my concluding theory. Let’s move on to the second part of the song:.

I'm out on the block again.
So hopped up that I can't pretend.
    Two time.
    Stay friends.
    Problem that you can't defend.
    Hands up, feel okay.
Whose heart could I break today?
    Two time.
    Stay friends.
    Problem that you can't defend.
    Oh.

What appears to be happening in this part is that the main singer is out looking for another lover, planning to cheat again. “Stay friends” seems to be the line they used to leave their spouse, after cheating. They don’t seem to be affected by the break up, quote, “Hands up, feel ok” and “Who’s heart should I break today?”.

I think that the song was meant to be nice and caring, but the main character ended up cheating. aka half being about MC's "main girl" and the other half being about his cheating partner(not cutting the song in half, rather some of the lyrics mean blah blah b;ah and the others mean something else). For example, the MC an cheating partner are saying the should stay friends, but the ended up advancing to a couple. Then it says "problem that you can't defend" which is the MC's first partner saying that there is no way of defending the things he has done. Also, to prove my point about the cheating part, it says "whose heart should I break today" and when someone cheats on another person, said person would be said to have a broken heart. The song is titled "two time" which could very well mean the MC is "two faced". i don't know,,, that's all i've got.

In my opinion, in the part he says "slip me in your pocket, chew the way out" maybe he is talking about pills? Also when he says "Was that your last piece of gum? Come on we both wanted some" Maybe he told his friends that his pills were just gum? and in the last paragraph of the second verse he says "I never read the package anyways" maybe the pills had some side effect that caused him to cheat on his girl bc he thought she was cheating bc in the first verse he says "but something bugs me about the way you lick your envelopes" maybe he thought that the way she licked them was something like she was sending part of her to some guy? idk. Also "two time" and "stay friends" looks like he wants a second chance with her. also "whose heart should I break today" makes it look like he wants someone else but knows he will just break her/ his heart. Idk this is just a theory.
