Tenesha The Wordsmith – Corny Ass Poem lyrics
Sometimes I wanna write a corny ass poem
I wanna be all hello sun
Thank you for opening your eyes
I wanna write about the wind tasting my face with it's fingers
I wanna personify animals like I'm in some fairy tale
Patriarchal Disney movie with misogynistic overtones
And dancing phallic symbols
Can I please be a damsel in distress
I'll fall into Prince Jamal's arms
Mount his noble steed
And then back
And then ride into the sunset
Reality
I'm at work
Jamal ain't check on me all day
And I am wondering
Do black chicks get rescued?
If I sit alone in the forest
Allow myself to slip into a daydream
Will a unicorn lay it's head in my lap
I wanna be an African Cinderella
[?] daughter
Flowing dress made of gossamer
And dance barefoot on marble floors
The clock strikes twelve and I race to my carriage
Leaving behind one golden sandal
The only clue to my true identity
Reality
The clock strikes 6am, I'm running late for work
Moving through morning traffic
My carbon print the only clue to my identity
I am the black woman who cut you off in traffic
While singing existential theme songs from children's movies
No ones knows I'm a black girl dreaming
The line from up high will always look blurry to me
I am a woman working
Corny ass poems aren't supposed to appeal to me
I'm a black woman with bills
Fantasies not meant for me
I'm a strong black woman
Romantic love is supposed to be impractical to me
I am a black woman
I show up
But sometimes I am still missing
I wanna be all hello sun
Thank you for opening your eyes
I wanna write about the wind tasting my face with it's fingers
I wanna personify animals like I'm in some fairy tale
Patriarchal Disney movie with misogynistic overtones
And dancing phallic symbols
