Taylor Swift – Eyes Open lyrics
Everybody's waiting,
Everybody's watching,
Even when you're sleeping,
Keep your e-eyes open.

The
tricky thing,
Is yesterday we were just children,
Playing soldiers, just pretending,
Dreaming dreams with happy endings.

In backyards,
Winning
battles with our wooden swords,
But now we've stepped into a cruel world.
Where everybody stands and,
Keeps score.

Keep your eyes
open.

[Chorus:]
Everybody's waiting, for you to breakdown.
Everybody's watching, to see the fallout.
Even when you're sleeping, sleeping,
Keep your e-eyes open.
Keep your e-eyes open.

Keep your e-eyes open
.

So here you are,
Two steps ahead, and staying on guard.
Every lesson forms a new scar,
They never thought you'd make it this far.

But turn around (turn around),
Oh
, they've surrounded with a showdown (showdown).
And nobody comes to save you now.
But you got something they don't,
Yeah, you got something they don't.
You just gotta keep your eyes
open.

[Chorus:]
Everybody's waiting, for you to breakdown.
Everybody's watching, to see the fallout.
Even when you're sleeping, sleeping,
Keep your e-eyes open.
Keep your e-eyes open.

Keep your eyes...

Keep your feet ready,
Heartbeat steady,
Keep your eyes open.
Keep your aim locked,
The night grows dark,
Keep your eyes open.

Keep your e-eyes open,
Keep your e-eyes open,
Keep your e-eyes open,
Keep your e-eyes open.

[Chorus:]
Everybody's waiting, for you to breakdown.
Everybody's watching, to see the fallout.
Even when you're sleeping, sleeping,
Keep your e-eyes open.

Keep your eyes open!
Keep your e-eyes open.
Keep your eyes open!
Keep your e-eyes open.

For the hunger games, I've always thought it was like katniss at district 12 just hunting with gale and you know, playing and stuff but then one day, everything changes and she had to kill kids which is like the 'cruel world' part of the song and she has to 'keep her eyes open' otherwise people could get you and the whole 'waiting for you to fall' part is the capitol using the hunger games as some kind of like, celebration and entertainment. In like, general, she's just pretty much saying be aware.

This song is about katniss and how she provides for her family and goes into the arena where everybodys watching to see the fallout and even when shes sleeping she needs to keep her eyes open or shell be caught. She needs to keep her feet ready her heartbeat steady aim locked. Theyve surrounded you its a showdown nobody can save you now but you have something they don't. Katniss has to stay on guard everything she does wrong forms a new scar the cruel world is the hunger games where katniss has to kill innocent people for the capitols amusement noone thought katniss would ever make it that far.

This song means that katniss has always had to keep her family alive and provide them with food but now she's "stepped into a cruel world" and she has to keep her eyes open and kill people to survive and she's relized 'the hunger games' are much harder.
    P. S. I love the hunger games sooo much, I read all 3 books and watched the movie! If you haven't read the books yet, you have to, they are so good! Katniss and peeta are awesome and so is taylor swift!

Keep your eyes open because no matter how hard you try there will always be challenges to face. My opinion is that when they are talking about "playing soldiers" with "wooden swords" they are reffering back to when they were 5 years old trying to act like heros, but "they've stepped into a cruel world" and didn't realize how different it is when your in a battle against death and have to fight against a person who you're starting to like. This song is very emotional talking about katniss probably never seeing gale or her family or district 12 ever again. And she thinks peeta is an ally with the careers because he pretended to team up with them to protect katniss. Even though it's hard you have to survive and do the best you can to save herself, rue, and now peeta.

To me the hunger games and the song is about the corruption of the world and how the government and the ways of capitalism force you to play a game of 'the survival of the fittest'. Everyone has to look after themselves and you can't trust anyone apart from yourself that's why you have to keep your 'eyes open'. Its kind of ironic how its such a beautiful and calm song with such a dark but true meaning lol.

I can't be the only one who sees this as from a career tribute's point of view can i?
'playing soldiers', 'winning battles with wooden swords' - those lines suggest a childhood of playing a fighter and a winner, training as if it were a harmless game. 'but now we've stepped into a cruel world', 'where everybody stands and keeps score' - they refer to the realisation that the games aren't as easy as they've been taught that they are, and that it is very realisitic that they will die. Career's act tough, but they're still tributes up for death like everyone else.
Talking about keeping your eyes open, being watched sleeping, etc, could refer in general to the whole being watched by the capitol. But also, career's have to keep their wits about them even more than other tributes in some cases, because the other careers are likely to turn on them at any point, they can't trust anyone and its dangerous for them to go to sleep surrounded by merciless killers of the same ability as them.
Especially during katniss's games, some of the lines can refer to the new lack of trust in the career ability because of how strong katniss has appeared to be, and how she was now a visible candidate.
It took me a few listens to reach this, but I honestly see this making sense. All the other meanings I have seen have made sense, but this is my personal opinion.

This song wasnt just written to relate to the hunger games, it also relates to growing up, becoming someone new, or even being a celebrity. When your in the spotlight, like taylor is, everyone is watching your every move, and waiting for you to mess up. There are people out there that judge someone on the smallest mistake, but when your in the spotlight as much as taylor is, everyone in the world will know about it in two hours and youll have billions of people judging you. The song explains someones transition between being a carefree child, doing whatever you want, to becoming a role model, someone that everyone watches. It also shows that the world is full of suprizes, and sometimes you have to fight your own battles. This song relates to anybody, not just katniss in the hunger games.

Everyone is waiting for you to fail or in the hunger games case, die. But you have the oppritunity to leave them without words by winning or accomplishing something. You have been prepared for it your whole life and it's what you are meant to do, although you just have to prove to not only other people but yourself as well that you are capable of overcoming your obstacle, so to speak. It is a song about perserverance and proving yourself. By keeping your "eyes open" you are keeping yourself alert and making sure that nothing stops you for succeeding.

I think that the song is all about the fact that when they were younger, they would just play pretend (katniss and gale) but now, they are in the real world, kept strictly under the capitol, and that when katniss has stepped forward with peeta, that from that point on, they wouldn't have a second alone, even when they were sleeping, they had to keep there eyes open, to watch out for the capitol, and any tricks they would try to pull to twist the arena and the game around! Eventually, katniss learns to properly hunt, and to always be on guard, watching out for traps, but saying that everyone is waiting for you to breakdown, and that you have to keep your eyes open to avoid being caught, especially after the games, when everybody is out to get her.

Eyes open means in the games you can't trust anyone but yourself. You have to stay strong and you can't break down. "even when your sleeping keep your eyes open" meaning its not safe and you need to be careful. No one believes in you and thinks you'll be dead within hours. Be prepared for anything that might be thrown at you. Don't underestimate people. Don't let your guard down. "keep your eyes open. "

Think the song can be interpreted in many different ways but, in relation to the hunger games I think it is about how katniss has fun hunting in the woods and the games are not very real to her until her sister is picked and katniss has to go into the games. I also think it is about how now she is in the games she has to be careful about what she does because she is being watched by friends, family, the capitol and president snow when she is in the games and she has to keep watch whilst in the games because other tributes are after her.

This song is obviously about taylors life she is steady in the public eye many waiting on her mental breakdown but she staying very well grounded her eyes are always open because she looks ahead in life many didn't think she would be big as she is now and its about being prepared for anything in life I agree this song was not written for hungergames but since it was close to relating to the film they threw it on the soundtrack.

This song fits well with both the hunger games and mockingjay. It is like saying (for the first book) that hunting in district 12 is nothing compared to being tribute and everyone didn't expect katniss to get so far in the games since she is from district 12. For the third book it is like saying the hunger games are nothing compared to the huge rebellion fight and the capitol didn't think katniss would survive long enough.

I would have to agree with an earlier comment made. It's hard to listen this song and even take it seriously when this doesn't seem like an original idea at all. This song wasn't inspired by the hunger games book. It was inspired by a song already written by needtobreathe, that opened for her on her us tour. And how convenient that she can take their lyrics and fit them into a new song last minute for the hunger games soundtrack. Not to mention, I read that the soundtrack was put together by t-bone burnett. He was the one that recruited the artist and told them what kind of song her was looking for. So, really he was the creative one and taylor dialed it. As usual. By using someone elses original material.

Everybody wants to see you fail. You just have to keep your head held high. Don't show them that you are weak. Show them that they can't hurt you. They just want to see you try to run and hide. Go in the open and show them how great you really are. Believe I yourself and don't listen to what other people have to say about you. Just keep your eyes open and your head held high.

Yes, it is written for the h games but it has a deeper meaning that goes beyond fiction & books. It means everything that was already said but also, 2 keep your eyes open 2 the flaws of our world. 2 not make games out of real wars going on in our world. 2 fight by loving and caring for others. 2 ignore the people in society who'll laugh when you fall. Atleast, that's my interpretation.

It means that the whole world is watching you, waiting for you to fail, and that you have to "keep your eyes open". Which means for you to watch out and be careful. That before s/he was just another person until they were chosen, and that s/he should be strong and keep going because they have something the others don't. But to find this strength you have to keep your eyes open.

As a big fan of The Hunger Games and Taylor Swift, this song is like kinda close to the story. The start, when Gale and Katniss are hunting is when they were just children winning battles with the wooden swords then suprisingly having Katniss volunteer for her sister to be thrown into an arena as when the song said " but now we stepped into a cruel world" -where they use teenagers for their entertainment.
And in the second verse, where it says' so here you are two steps ahead and staying on guard' to my understanding is in the arena. And when the song says'they never thought you'ld make it this far' is when she got an eleven. And the rest of the second verse says about the things in the games.
and of course, the chorus says that she needs to always be aware.
by: there's no forever on earth.

People want you to fail. They want you to fall to the ground, give up. They want to see you die. But you can never give them what they want. Like. Katniss. You have to use what you have, and never lose sight of who you are, even when you are forced to do evil things, like outlive twenty three other people, and kill. By far my favorite taylor swift song. She's not too bad for a mainly country singer.
