"And your friends, baby, they treat you like a guest."
You do not understand the affect, in the sense of "disposition", of this phrase. In a context where your friends are the people who really get you, with whom you can be free and informal, treating you like guest means they treat you formally and with some distance, not like someone to whom they are close.

Yours is an excellent review. The reason I came here is because my wife and I were picking apart the lyrics and pointing out their nonsense. Your friends treating you like a guest as something bad was one of our focuses. We could not agree with you more. I guess this song just can't quite cause tears to be running, all running down my (male) breast. Thank you for making me laugh while also making perfect sense.

This is a great song, musically. Lyrically? Not so much. The singer insists you want, need, and would love somebody to love. I find that to be somewhat presumptuous. Also, she seems to be playing on our innate insecurities to sell us on this notion of love as being a desirable commodity. To make it even worse, in the last line she tells us "You better find somebody to love!" Like she's cracking a whip. Hold off, Grace! I suppose the line "When the truth is found to be lies" means that the person you thought loved you turns out to not love you. Boo, hoo. But I could just as easily say that love itself, which many regard as real and desirable, is itself a lie. Like the Easter Bunny, but nobody can prove it even exists.
But Grace seems certain she knows we are hurt (sort of rubbing salt in the wounds) and that the remedy is to immediately find a replacement. As if that's such an easy thing to do. just grab any stranger on the street and love them. And I'll bet you if you went up to Grace herself and said you wanted her to love, she'd tell you to take a flying leap off the Golden Gate bridge!
And she says find somebody to love, not somebody who will love you in return. There-in lies the rub.
Also, the rest of the lyrics are supposed to make you feel bad about your life, like everything is dying and rotten. OK, maybe. But one of the things that's supposed to be bad is "Your friends treat you like a guest". That doesn't sound bad. To be treated like their special, invited guest sounds pretty good!
I think the real lyric is "Your friends, baby, treat you like a pest." That's bad.
