System Of A Down – Chop Suey! lyrics
Wake up (Wake up)
Grab a brush and put a little makeup
Hide the scars to fade away the shake up
(Hide the scars to fade away the shake)
Why'd you leave the keys up on the table?
Here you go create another fable

(You wanted to)
Grab a brush and put on a little makeup
(You wanted to)
Hide the scars to fade away the shake up
(You wanted to)
Why'd you leave the keys up on the table?
(You wanted to)

I don't think you trust, in, my,
Self-righteous suicide,
I, cry, when angels deserve to die
!

Wake up (wake up)
Grab a brush and put a little makeup
Hide the scars to fade away the shake up
Why'd you leave the keys up on the table?
Here you go create another fable

(You wanted to)
Grab a brush and put on a little makeup
(You wanted to)
Hide the scars to fade away the shake up
(You wanted to)
Why'd you leave the keys up on the table?
(You wanted to)

I don't think you trust, in, my
Self-righteous suicide,
I cry, when angels deserve to die

In my self-righteous suicide,
I cry, when angels deserve to die

Father (father)
Father (father)
Father (father)
Father (father)
Father Into your hands I commit my spirit
Father Into your hands, why have you forsaken me?
In your eyes, forsaken me
In your thoughts, forsaken me
In your heart, forsaken me

Oh, trust in my, self-righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to die
In my self-righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to die

Heres what the song means straight out of Daron Malakian's mouth.
In an interview, Daron Malakian explained, "the song is about how we are regarded differently depending on how we pass. Like, if I were now to die from a drug abuse, they might say I deserved it because I abused dangerous drugs. Hence the line, "I cry when angels deserve to die. " The lyrics "Why have you forsaken me? " and "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit"are references to Jesus' death on the cross, as they were two of the seven things Jesus said whilst dying.

This song is about the armenian holocaust. Serj tankian is Armenian and the lyrics "self righteous suicide" refer to the fact that the armenians never fought back evenwhen they were being killed by muslim turks. Lyrics "father into your hands I commit my spirit" and "why have u forsaken me", were among the last words of christ. 1: 35 -1: 40, you could c the armenian flag in the background. Serj said the song is just a reflection of what happened to his people. Btw, one of the best songs ever written!

Omg your so stupid hes saying "trust in my self-righteous suicide" because he's telling people that even though he's going to die on the cross that they should still beleive in him. And how do you knoe they're making fun of him? In all fairness none of us know if they mean it or not but seriously? Also "father why have you forsaken me" and "i commend my spirit is two of the seven things jesus said as he was dying on the cross. Now like I said before none of us really know what they mean by the song but judging by their other songs they're not satin worshipers at all.

I think it's about a woman who is suffering from an abuse or something (Hide the scars to fade away the shake up)
she turns to god for help but her suffering never ends (Father Into your hands, why have you forsaken me?)
so she decides to commit suicide (trust in my, self-righteous suicide)
that's why serj says (I cry, when angels deserve to die) because the woman was innocent but no one helped her to get out of her misery so she kills herself.

I may be way off because I am ignorant about the history of the Armenians. That said, I believe the artist understands that and is not referring to Armenians but rather Jesus and the ironies and questions that baffled the onlookers. "Ch" and "Su" are symbolic of The name Christ Jesus. This to me is about how He was taunted, if He is God, why doesn't He make Himself heal His scars and clean up His bloody hair and face? Hey well He wanted to but it was His choice to let the Powers be. The Apostles and Angels deserve to die for not rescuing Him when they could have. To the onlookers, if He had all the answers, why did He die now, when He was suppose to be their hope? Basically leaving the "keys on the table" in their minds. And thus starting a new " fable" of Him being just another false prophet in their eyes. We all can relate ironically, how we try to do everything right but in the end, we realize we have become what we all feared the most. We all still have the same fate-our eventual death in this world.

"Mustakrakish", I'm sure what your friend was alluding to was the fact that while on the cross Jesus said the following:.
"And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, 'Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?' which is translated, 'My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?' " (Mark 15: 34).
    And.
"And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, 'Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit.' Having said this, He breathed His last. " (Luke 23: 46).
There is far more religion in some extremely popular songs by extremely popular bands than many realize, it's almost as though they're trying to save people from themselves without letting on what it is they're trying to do sometimes. I guess because it's far easier to get someone to unknowingly chant along to something catchy in reference to Christ than to get people to actually knowingly embrace his teachings.

In my English class, we talked a lot about Judas. He was the priest that revealed that Jesus Christ was actually the messiah to the Roman authorities. I'm saying this because in some way it seems like the "Self-righteous suicide" lyric could mean that when Jesus was crusified, it was sorta like a suicide because Jesus trusted Judas but Judas betrayed Jesus. Another thought is that Jesus knew that one of the twelve chosen priests was actually against him. I might not be right but this is what I thought about when I started to read these comments and read the song lyrics aswell.

I think it may have something to do with God. The Hide those scars and fade away that shake up could of been from after Jesus rose from the dead and showed his scars on his hands and feet to the desciples. The whole chorus might be telling people to trust in Jesus giving himself up to die, though his was anything but self-righteous. Jesus did say "Father why have you forsaken me." Matt. 27: 46, he actually says My God, My God. And Luke 24: 46 says "Father into your hands I commend my spirit." these could be references from Jesus on the Cross. And the I cry when angels deserve to die might mean that the people that watched Jesus die on the cross cried, also Jesus lived a perect human life. He wasnt anything close to an angel.

No, no, no, no, no, no. I believe that Carlijawan is correct. That why I voted him up. I tend to elaborate so listen up. Self rightious suicide is what the Armanians must have felt when they had been torchered so long. They felt forsaken, like Christ did while talking to God about his cruicification. They Ignored the daily the crap spewed upon them, even though it was killing them.

The interpretation that its about Jesus dying on the cross came to my mind quickly as well. What doesn't seem to fit is that Jesus would call his death a "self-righteous suicide". If it really was the sacrifice he had to bring to save all Christianity from death these are not the right words,
Now I don't want to offend religious beliefs but I think Jesus was inspired and lived and teached the fact that love and forgiveness are the only things that can save mankind. His death was no salvation, just another crime against one of humanity's greatest men who stood up against injustice.
Now comes the part with makeup, and leaving the keys. I think the makeup means the resurrection was a fake and the left keys are referring to his crypt being reopened and the body stolen so another religion could be founded ("here you go create another fable"). A religion which with time got somewhat away from Jesus' teachings and was abused to unite one part of mankind against others, to wage war against non-believers and so on, like many religions.
So from Jesus' point of view it would be kind of ironic if he spoke of "self-righteous suicide" and just maybe he means to say "I hope you don't trust in my self-righteous suicide" in the context of this song's lyrics.

I know that this could be far-fetched and founded on my personal opinions. But it´s not a test where I have to find some single solution, it's my interpretation.

I believe this song is saying that people who commit suicide deserve to die because their reality is so bad, or because they are dying for a cause they believe in (like christ did), and they ask the question father(god) why have you forsaken me? Because they are trying their best to do what they believe is good yet they must die or yet their reality is aweful. They could be considered "angels". The putting on make up, hiding the scars, and leaving the keys on the table is symbolic of another person going on with their life and ignoring the suicidal person or emotions, and not trusting(believing) in the self righteous suicidal person (or even the crucifiction). Also that person (the ignoring one)has a tendency to lie(creating fables) and doesn't want to admit that they did all of those things putting on makeup etc (ignoring) because they wanted to. The song in the beginning says i(the suicidal person) cry when angels deserve to die, because that person is emotional. Then it goes on to say "why cry when angels deserve to die? " meaning how many people really care? Or should they?

I think this song is about someone who is being treated badly such as a women being abused. (Grab a brush and put a little makeup,
Hide the scars to fade away the shake up) I think this a women being abused. (Father Into your hands I commend my spirit
Father Into your hands, why have you forsaken me?) I think this means the women is Praying trying to figure out why she is being abused, and why god is not stopping it.

I think this song is about this girl being beaten by someone in her household (reletively a family member) and she is trying to hide what the person did to her by makeup. So that no one suspects that she is getting hurt, she tells all these lies to people and fakes a good life. But maybe this girl was getting hurt more then once in a day so badly that she couldn't take it anymore so she asks god why he had given her such an awful life and what she did wrong to deserve that kind of pain and hurt and commits suicide because she thinks that's the only way out.
