OneRepublic – All The Right Moves lyrics
Oh oh uh

All the right friends
In all the right places
So yeah, we're going down
They've got all the right moves
In all the right faces
So yeah, we're going down

Let's paint the picture
Of the perfect place
They've got it better then when anyone's told ya
They'll be the King of Hearts, and your the Queen of Spades
Then we'll fight for you like we were your soldiers

I know we've got it good
But they've got it made
And the grass is getting greener each day
I know things are looking up, but soon they'll take us down
Before anybody's knowing our name

They've got...

All the right friends in all the right places
So yeah, we're going down
They've got
All the right moves in all the right faces
So yeah, we're going down

They say
Everybody knows, everybody knows where we're going
Yeah, we're going down
They say
Everybody knows, everybody knows where we're going
Yeah, we're going down

Do you think I'm special?
Do you think I'm nice?
Am I bright enough to shine in your spaces?
Between the noise you hear, and the sounds you like
Are we just sinking in the ocean of faces?
It can't be possible... The rain can fall
Only when it's over our heads.
The sun is shining everyday, but it's far away.
Over the world that's dead.

They've got, they've got...

All the right friends in all the right places
So yeah, we're going down
They've got
All the right moves in all the right faces
So yeah, we're going down

They say
Everybody knows, everybody knows where we're going
Yeah, we're going down
They say
Everybody knows, everybody knows where we're going
Yeah, we're going down

It don't matter what you see
I know I could never be
Someone that'll look like you.
It don't matter what you say
I know I could never fake
Someone that could sound like you.

All the right friends in all the right places
So yeah, we're going down
They've got
All the right moves in all the right faces
So yeah, we're going down
(Repeat twice)

They say
Everybody knows, everybody knows where we're going
Yeah, we're going down
They say
Everybody knows, everybody knows where we're going
Yeah, we're going down

Yeah, we're going down(repeat twice)

All the right moves... Heeey
Yeah we're going down
They say
All the right moves... Heeey
Yeah we're going down

I believe this song is referring to the pitfalls of popularity, and I believe the lyrics are meant to inspire people to be grateful for what they have instead of always thinking that the grass is greener elsewhere. This song may be a statement about how many of us make popularity and acceptance our highest priority, which can lead us down the wrong road. In any case, as many have already said, this is a great song, no matter what the meaning. This band is extremely talented, and I wish them all the best.

I don't think this song has any political meaning to it. He is talking about celebrities and their overly exaggerated fame (distinct metaphor). When he says "all the right moves in all the right faces" he's talking about how celebrities get more famous by hanging around people with higher/equal status than them. Essentially, once you're seen with Paris Hilton, Rob Pattinson, or Nicole Richie, everybody starts to get curious about you and want to know more. He also talks about people being "fake" and "sounding just like you do" as in specifically calling out artists in the music industry (the metaphoric theme of the whole song). What I really think the song is about is how artists have changed the music industry and how people who can't sing is able to get record deals by using autotune and computerized vocals to make hits just because they may be famous or has the right s** appeal (Paris Hilton, Vanessa Hudgens, etc). Essentially, when he says "yeah, we're going down" he means that the public will get the idea that wait, this artist's voice is totally fake and lipsynchs (example). And what's interesting is that he uses "we" as in he includes himself rather than isolating "you". I think he emphasizes "we" because the people he's calling out will affect him as a real creative artist in the music industry. They will eventually ruin the reputation of music for everyone.

I think it tries the actual society in regards to religion. "Going down" refers to the act of condemnation to Hell and by saying, "everybody knows where we're going" it signifies the religions condemning each other for minor differences. "They got all the right moves in all the right faces" indicates their way of following religion. There are more examples as well. However! I can also see it trying the actual society in regards to couples living in sin while trying to achieve salvation through a conservative religion, and they give up and attempt to try what they believe is right. However, everyone is telling them that Hell is their final destination regardless. "All the right friends in all the wrong places" I personally think signifies the bigotry and condescending hypocrisy within the hearts of those who condemn that which they do not understand. It don't matter what you see. I know I could never be Someone that'll look like you. It don't matter what you say, I know I could never face someone that could sound like you. This stanza is what forces me to part my beliefs into two. Hehe. Kind of long I know, but let me know what you all think!

I think this song is about the holy grail. And the one talking here is the priory of sion. The queen of hearts is the holy grail and the soldiers are the priory. Well that's the main job of the priory is to protect the holy grail from the ones who wants to destroy it. But the enemies have got stronger. They got all the right friends in all the right places. So yeah they're going down. Hhhmmm. My mind's been running wild.

I think this is just saying how some people have it made while others don't, so basically they're over powered, and cannot win. For instance in the song the lead singer says "i know we've got it good but they have it made" I think this song is also talking about different social groups and how some are going to ruin this world. This is what I think the song means.

For me I think they are referring to a card game. Where it says "they'll be the king of hearts, and you're the queen of spades" its like they are playing a game similar to cards. When it talks about sounds you hear and the sounds you like. Most likely they like winning, yet isn't. And there is confusing things happening all around and its relating to something like poker. Or more like a love life. People are against two that are dating and those who object has friends in all the right places. And them going down is their relationship ending.

Hehehe. Oh Rightwing. Too serious really. I know we are expressing your opinions but wow. We all know the economy is in bad shape, but pointing the finger at someone like that really doesn't help. The damage is done, so instead of whinning find a solution. Ps. If it's Obamas fault, how come I don't hear people complain about it like you do. Just a handful.
The lyric though is awsome. Just the class of people and who they are. I just enjoy this song way too much! Awsomeness!

It really is interesting how everyone interpretation of this song is different. I honestly feel that this song has something to do with the celebrities and fame. (actors, musicians. Etc.) I guess you can become famous if you have people in the right places. I guess it's the same with polititians. But in the end we all end up 6 ft under. We're all facing "death" no matter how famous or notorious you are. Everybody knows we're going down. :) but that's my opinion.
No matter what I happen to love song no matter what it means. :)

I think the song means that one band had struggles becoming famous and there comes a new band that becomes famous but its easier for them to become famous and the part where they say ' They sayEverybody knows, everybody knows where we're going
Yeah, we're going down' it means that because the rising of the other band with no struggle is bringing down the other band who has struggle!

I think this song is about a couple who have ended up together despite all odds (I know things are looking up, but soon they'll take us down), and I think it documents their struggle to be as good as other couples, maybe money-wise or something ("I know we've got it good, but they've got it made"). Although it's a struggle they can't win (Everybody knows, everybody knows where we're going, yeah, we're going down), they're not bothered because they have each other.

My take on the meaning is that besides being about fame, and maybe how fickle it can be, it is also about president John F. Kennedy's assassination. Think about it. Firstly the band is called OneRepublic and the album is "waking up! " they obviously care about such matters.
Here is the chorus with this thought in mind:.
"look so good i might die" (how many times do you hear of his handsome features? Also, right before he's shot, he's running his hand through his hair to make sure it's okay).
"everybody loves me" -- this was "camelot," right? They were loved!
"head down". Better have your head down. Bullets are flying!
"swinging to my own sound". Unfortunately. No ipod here. He has been impacted with bullets to his head, and he's swaying with the impact.
"flashes in his face now". Yes in the fame scenario. It means cameras flashing but with the assassination. It means flashes from a gun.
Now some points from the verses:.
"caesar's shadow on my backseat". Another assasinated (but loved!) figure. Of course kennedy was in the backseat. A shadow over something means it harkens to in this case, earlier assassination.
"friends standing right in front of me" where else are people standing around a car but in a presidential motorcade. Agents to protect him. Sad, these were called off him this day!
"worldwide from the cimmarron to turkey" - presidents have a lot to say worldwide, no? - cimmaron means "no man's land" and turkey, because of the missiles there.
"open up". Can mean "open fire! "
"don't have to make a sound". Aren't silencer's handy sometimes?
"got what you need". Guns, mind-controlled assassins, the ability to pull off his protectors, the ability to falsify an autopsy, the list goes on. Seriously, if you watch the zapruder film of the assassination, this will become much more clear. Just google it.
"got love... People who have warned you" caesar was warned by a soothsayer, john f kennedy probably had many who were concerned and warned him. Maybe some threats took place before the fateful day.
"god love all your sentimental virtue" many believe he was killed because of the way he wanted to end the federal reserve system (look it up if you don't get that the fed is not federal, but instead a global conspiracy of bankers. And there is no "reserve," either. It's a scam of the worst caliber.) the other reason I think he was killed is that he wanted to do away with secret societies and the secret shadow government that exists to this day. He made a famous speech to that effect where he said at that time that it was a heinous conspiracy. So many would say that these are "sentimental (even naive? ) virtues"?
"lay cards with the lovers that'll hate you" as someone reported, caesar's friends called themselves lovers instead of friends.
John philip sousa wrote the star spangled banner. He had children, but none were named desiree. Desiree was actually a play he wrote. He rejected for the most part recorded music, as he felt it lost something from not being live. It seems much recorded music that was supposed to have been done by him was done by others. So he is remembered for things he never made, but that we think he made. This goes back to not needing to make a sound. He didn't play on or conduct this music, yet he is credited with having done so. I guess he's saying that's not such a bad deal.
Let's go to where the president is dead and resting in his grave:.
"don't need my health" obviously the man is deceased, so physical health is not an issue.
"got my name, ain't got my wealth" his name is on his tombstone or grave marker, doesn't need his wealth as "you can't take it with you! " his fortune is laid up for his heirs though.
"i stare at the sun just for kicks all by myself" sad. Picture of a person buried, face up, toward the sun. All day by oneself. Clear?
"i lose track of time so i might be past my prime" again, what meaning does time have in the grave? He is past his prime, as he's been murdered and is no longer living.
"but i'm feeling oh-so good" this means either or both that it's sarcastic and a take on this fame that can make someone a hero one minute and can crash down on them and they can be a joke the next or I think it's likely that it's saying that president kennedy, no matter what else he did or did not do, that his efforts at the end of his life toward getting rid of the fed and speaking against secret societies and global conspiracies were right. And he, his spirit, can feel good about it's virtuous efforts on behalf of the american people and really all people.
This is such a clever song! I hope we will grasp it's meaning and act accordingly. The atrocities such as his assassination are still happening. The things president kennedy tried to save us from are still going on. God help us and bless us and keep us from these tyrants and their plans!

So interesting to see how everyone has a different interpretation of this song. To me, I think they are referring to this current political government obama system. "They have all the right (democrat) friends in all the right places. so yeah,we're going down!" America is painted as the perfect place, "We've got it good but they've (politicians) got it made". Democrats with their own agenda and lack of common sense is taking us down! " Are we just sinking in an ocean of faces " because they aren't listening to the American people. Hence the Tea Party. Obama is Fake and I could never be a fake like you. America is waking up and "Everybody knows, everybody knows where we're going, yeah we're going down" moral, finacial, international ruins! "I know things are looking up but they'll take us down before anybody's knowing our names". Think about it. That's what's going on right now with this obama nation. Ps. I rarely see obama bumper stickers anymore. People realize he's a liar and a hypocrit and this song is made just for him and his puppets. But the rightwingers will come in and fix it their mess.
