Coldplay – Strawberry Swing lyrics
They were sitting
They were sitting
In the strawberry swing

Every moment was so precious

They were sitting
They were talking
In the strawberry swing
Everybody was for fighting
Wouldn't wanna waste a thing

Cold, cold water
Bring me round
Now my feet
Won't touch the ground
Cold, cold water
What ya say?
It's such
It's such a perfect day
It's such a perfect day

I remember
We were walking up
To strawberry swing
I can't wait 'til the morning
Wouldn't wanna change a thing

People leaving all the time
Inside
A perfectly straight line
Don't you wanna curve away
It's such
It's such a perfect day
It's such a perfect day

Now the sky could be blue
I don't mind
Without you
It's a waste of time

Could be blue
I don't mind
Without you
It's a waste of time

Could be blue
Could be grey
Without you
I'm just miles away

Could be blue
I don't mind
Without you
It's a waste of time

Yes. I guess it depends. Most people think this is an upbeat song, which parts of it may be, but to me there is a deep, deep sadness to the song. Hence the repetition of the without you stanzas. And all the "happy" parts start out in the past tense, then become present tense as he slips into the memory of what used to be. I guess your interpretation depends on your own situation and it can mean different things to different people.

Strawberry swing could be a metaphor for the precious, innocent moments in life that you feel and remember. These are moments that you know you will need to capture and build up in your heart to feel alive and human. The looping guitar melody makes me feel like a bubble, or a web is intentionally casting a mirror around the feeling of those moments to capture them and keep them in range and alive. The tribal drums remind me that we pass on those feeling from ancient generations up to now, and we also send them into the future. This song is a wonderful reminder to live this precious time on earth as thoughtfully and carefully as we can.

True love, he's reminiscing about the love he had with this person, she made him feel alive, the world was a better place with her in his life. But now she's gone this world can no longer hold his interest. Strawberry swing is a place they would go to spend time together when the weather was good, it was a special place. But it would just be a 'waste of time' to visit it again without her there.
'miles away' means he's not in the present, he is so engrossed in his memories the weather has no effect on him, it could be sunny or raining; he doesn't 'mind' either way. Because in his mind, he's living the 'perfect day'. The 'cold water' refers to rain.
That's my take on it anyways. The emotion in this song, the whole album is simply amazing!

I think the title name strawberry swing is referring to an attitude, or feeling more than an actually swing. Strawberry is a fruit which could be symbolic in some way, and also the color, and swing is a motion or a dance perhaps. Also he mentions "every moment was so precious" this makes me think he cherishes every moment, and "wouldn't wanna waste a thing." also "such a perfect day". Next. "sky could be blue." when you think of a sunny day you think of happiness, and when its raining and cloudy you think of depression. He is saying that in all days (sunny or cloudy) the day is perfect. Also without her there it doesn't matter what the weather is. When he says "everybody was for fighting" he might be pointing towards caring about the important things, and not the stupid stuff people fight about now days. This could be related to a couple who were together, and one of the two were leaving to go thousands of miles away, and in that time they were together they enjoyed every moment more because they knew they're time left was short.

I bet there's a huge a* plastic strawberry swing in chris' back yard and he and his family were playing out back there.
Hahaha jk, but I do think it's about his family though, this song clearly relates to a fond memory, and he seems like the type to value his wife and children very highly. Plus the line "Everybody was for fighting
Wouldn't wanna waste a thing" makes me think there was a silly argument going on, you know, you look back on moments like that and laugh about it. It encapsulates all the things I associate with a very loving family.

I get pictures. And make believe memories. You know how nostalgic movies make you feel. Yes, the same feeling comes up. Funny thing, we all have those pictures and movie-like moments that we imagine right. Pictures of memories. Did you ever notice that there is nothing wrong with the world in those memories?. Everything is perfect. But hey, I'm way too deep here. I guess you can place that song in all your nostalgic memories and in all your future dreams of what relationships could be like.
