The Lotus Inn is made for travelers who are “looking to find yourself or looking for a good time” and promises to “make your stay with us a night to remember.” Verse 2 In the second verse of the song, Why Don’t We sing about playing this song over and over again even before it released. While this could allude to the ongoing storyline of the song, where the girl might have loved this song, it has a different backstory too. Christian Seavey, Daniel Seavey’s brother, talked about the song and it’s connection to their late friend Corey La Barrie, who passed away in May 2020; “[this song] is so close to my heart, because Corey and I, every time we drove home from anywhere, he would always be like, “Christian, play ‘Lotus Inn,’ man!” … And he would scream that shit in the back. Corey kinda wanted to be a singer, and he used to talk to Daniel about it all the time, it was the cutest thing. But he would belt “Lotus Inn” and I loved it.” The lyrics of the second verse also shout out to their album titles, but it fits perfectly to the context of the song as well. Despite the few bad days, at the Lotus Inn or even in life in general, we always push through thinking about the many good days.

Youth" is a song by Australian singer and songwriter Troye Sivan from his debut studio album Blue Neighbourhood (2015). The song premiered on 12 November 2015 on Shazam Top 20 at 7PM AEST and was officially released on 13 November 2015 as the album's second single. Youth" won Sivan's first ever Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Awards in 2016 for Best Video and Song of the Year. Billboard ranked "Youth" at number 11 on their "100 Best Pop Songs of 2016" list. Sivan said "'Youth' is a song about the joy in naivety and being lost. It's about dropping everything, running away, making mistakes, and loving too hard, and how that's okay.

To Die For" is a song by English singer Sam Smith, released through Capitol Records on 14 February 2020. Smith co-wrote the song alongside Jimmy Napes and Stargate. The song was intended to appear on Smith's upcoming third album (2020), however, it was later removed after the album's postponement. Smith said that they wrote the song in Los Angeles "during a time of self-discovery and heartbreak".

Flicker is the debut studio album by Irish singer Niall Horan. It was released on 20 October 2017 through Neon Haze Music and Capitol Records. "This Town" was released on 29 September 2016 as the album's lead single, followed by "Slow Hands", "Too Much to Ask", "On the Loose" and "Seeing Blind". In June 2016, Horan confirmed that he was working on his debut studio album, stating "I've been in the studio writing bits and pieces. It's just for fun at the moment. I've made relationships with different writers up and down the years so I'm putting them into action now." In September 2016, it was announced that Horan had signed a solo deal with Capitol Records. Talking to the Daily Star, Horan said: "I have been working on [the album] since March 2016. It has been a year and a half in the making and it is finally time for people to hear it." In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Horan stated that his upcoming new album was inspired by classic rock acts, including Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles. "Whenever I would pick up a guitar, I would always naturally play chords like that, and finger pick a lot and play that folky kind of style." He also described the collection as having a "folk-with-pop feel to it." In August 2017, Horan debuted several songs from the album during a live show at Shepherd's Bush Empire in London. He also revealed that he had contacted Maren Morris to contribute to his song "Seeing Blind". On 15 September 2017, Horan announced the album through his social media accounts, revealing the album's title, cover art and release date as well as the release of the third single from the album, "Too Much to Ask". The track list of the album was unveiled on 22 September 2017. Horan told Zane Lowe on his Beats 1 Radio show that the album's title track, "Flicker", means the most to him and "was a very poignant moment in the recording process", to the extent that "it changed the way I recorded the rest of the album".

To put things succinctly, in “Someone You Loved” Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi is lamenting over a lost love. Capaldi misses the benefits he enjoyed while he was with his significant other, when he was actually someone that she loved. He is obviously dealing with some sort of psychological issue. And this psychological challenge is most likely depression. He is in a pretty dark place and badly needs regular emotional support. In the past, this would have apparently been granted to him by his girlfriend. But now that their relationship has dissolved, he is basically defenseless. He has no one around who cares enough to help him deal with these issues. How their relationship ended is not really made clear in the song. However, based on the lyrics, it seems that Capaldi lost her unexpectedly. The aftershocks of being left alone are paining Lewis not only due to his depression but also the fact that he was getting accustomed to being the recipient of his significant other’s care and love. And the situation is made more unbearable, considering, as alluded to earlier, that everyday life itself does not seem to be something Capaldi particularly enjoys.

"You Should Be Sad" (stylized in sentence case) is a song recorded by American singer Halsey. It was released on January 10, 2020 through Capitol Records as the sixth single from her third studio album, Manic (2020). Halsey wrote the song with its producer Greg Kurstin. "You Should Be Sad" is a country-tinged ballad which features lyrics about a breakup and an unfaithful ex-lover. Upon its release, the song was met with critical acclaim, with many critics praising its lyrics. In the US, the song peaked at number twenty six on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the album's second highest charting single on the Hot 100. It entered the top ten in Australia, Belgium and Ireland, while reaching the top 20 in Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Scotland, Singapore and the United Kingdom. The music video for "You Should Be Sad" was directed by Colin Tilley. Premiering on January 10, 2020, the video depicts Halsey going to "an underground country western nightclub, where a lot of beautiful people are line-dancin". The video was met with mixed reviews. Halsey revealed that she wrote the song in her living room floor, as well in Nashville, and stated that "the most petty and heartbreaking songs all come from country". When talking about the inspiration for the outfits, Halsey confirmed a number of artists, writing, "Xtina, Gaga, Carrie, and of course Shania, this was one loaded with nods to badass idols of mine. Had the vision to do a 'Before He Cheats' but instead about after he does haha".

"Falling" is a song by English singer and songwriter Harry Styles. It was released through Erskine and Columbia Records on 28 February 2020 as the fourth single from his second studio album, Fine Line. The music video, directed by Dave Meyers, was released on 28 February 2020. The video features Styles alone in an apartment with a piano. As he sings the ballad, the room slowly fills with water, until, in the end, he is fully submerged, drowning. In reference to the video, Styles said "That feeling of kind of being overwhelmed, you know you can feel like you're drowning sometimes...and the fact that it's coming from the piano, I guess it's like writing these songs are what helps but also they can hurt you sometimes."

"I'm So Tired..." (stylized in lowercase) is a song recorded by American singer Lauv and Australian singer Troye Sivan. It was released on January 24, 2019. The song reached number eight on the UK Singles Chart, becoming both artists' first top 10 there. It also reached the top 5 in Ireland, top 10 in New Zealand, and the top 15 of Australia. Sivan remembers "Fully flipping out" upon being shown the track by Lauv during a writing session. The track went through several variations. At one point, the chorus featured four on the floor drum beats, although this version "felt really good". According to Sivan, it felt like a remix and that element was eventually dropped. Lauv would go on to call the single an "accidental duet" explaining " he [Sivan] just sounded too good singing it, so I think it was just natural to do the record together."

The addressee of “Know Your Worth” comes off as if it is a female who is in a toxic relationship. The implication is that her partner abuses her in some way, shape or form. And her being so used to such treatment accepts it as the norm. Indeed it is revealed that she has low self-esteem, as she does not feel that love is real unless such demeaning factors exist in a romance. So Khalid sees it as his goal to ‘pick her up’, as in make her feel better about herself. And the way he is going about doing so is by touting her “worth”. In other words, he perceives her as being more precious than she does herself. And he wants her to likewise adopt a more self-appreciating attitude. The desired result is not only to make her more optimistic, considering that she is in a bad relationship. But it is also to make her overcome her general depression to the point where she will no longer tolerate such abuse. So perhaps the best way to describe this song is as it being based on an attempt by the singer to raise the self-esteem of someone he is concerned about.

“I Like Me Better” is a worldwide smash hit single recorded by American singer and songwriter Lauv. In the lyrics, Lauv, who is deeply in love with his girlfriend, tells her just how much he treasures her presence in his life. According to him, he likes himself better whenever he is in her company. That’s how awesome the love is to him. Lauv said the lyrics of the song are about when he moved to New York to further his education. He was 18 at that time and had just fallen in love for the very first time in his life. According to him, at that time, there was so much craziness in his life. However, the love he and his girlfriend shared brought him happiness because it was “dope”.

This song is actually centered on the loneliness of the singer, specifically from a romantic perspective. For instance, in the chorus it is revealed that when he sees couples enjoying themselves together he becomes filled with a feeling of envy, for lack of a better word. That is to say that beholding their happiness is just a further reminding that he, as Sam poetically puts it, is a “solo shadow on a sidewalk”. So the prevailing sentiment of this tune is the artist desiring someone in his life “to die for”. This is a play on words of the popular expression ‘someone to live for’. But it means fundamentally the same thing. And that is it being symbolical of the singer’s want for a significant other, someone he can actually dedicate his all to. Moreover this yearning is accentuated by the fact that he is experiencing some type of depression or unfavorable period in his life. So at the end of the day “To Die For” can best be described as a song of lamentation. For not only is it premised on the singer’s depression, but the main point being put across is that his lack of a special someone is eating away at his soul.

Here is my better meaning: The lyrics of Lewis Capaldi’s “Before You Go” find him addressing some type of close associate. The nature of their relationship is never specified. However, it has clearly fallen apart, as in the addressee deciding to separate him or herself from the singer. And basically, the sentiment expressed throughout is one in which the vocalist regrets not being more in tune with what this person was going through before he/she made this decision. Sadly, Lewis Capaldi has revealed that the subject matter of this song is in fact suicide. Therefore the sentiments he is relaying are from the perspective of a loved one that a victim of suicide has left behind. And the loss of this individual is proving to be especially painful, as the singer apparently perceives that he had an opportunity to prevent this from occurring but failed to do so. So the title is based on him questioning this individual in that regard, as in if there was ‘something he could have said’ in the past to make him/her feel better and thus deter this person from taking his own life. But of course if the addressee is indeed passed away, then this question would be theoretically in nature, as in one the singer is asking himself in hindsight.

“ME!” is the title of a 2019 romantic song by singer Taylor Swift. It also features the vocals of Brendon Urie (lead singer of Panic! at the Disco). The lyrics of “ME!” center on two very important things in life. And what are these things? The first one is self-love and the second is confidence. This is a track which is designed to reinforce the self-esteem of the audience. Or put another way, Tay Tay wants to instill a positive sense of self-worth in listeners via this track. The setting of “Me!” is founded on the singers (Taylor Swift along with Brendon Urie) taking on the roles of lovers having a conversation with each other. And what they are basically saying is that, despite their challenging personalities, they are one of a kind. Indeed they also recognize the extraordinary uniqueness of each other and conclusively big one another up by expressing mutual appreciation for having such an “awesome” partner. Ultimately the singers recognize that there are other potential lovers out there. But they also acknowledge none of these people are as special as they are. But the sentiment this track is based on is not one of exalting yourself over others. Rather it is centered on the individual recognizing his or her own special qualities and embracing the characteristics which make them unique.

This is clearly a love song in which BTS (supported by Halsey) are enamored by a romantic interest. However, what the phrase “boy with luv” means is not forthrightly defined. But within the overall context of the track as well as similar terminology being used in a previous BTS song, it would seem to insinuate something along the lines of the singers being fulfilled in their love life through interaction with the individual(s) they are addressing.The song starts off with Jimin expressing a strong curiosity in the person he is interested in. Indeed when V and Jin come in during the second verse, they express a desire to actually have this lady serve as their “teacher”. And during the third verse, Suga points out how special this woman is, right down to her personal mannerisms, as well as her ability to illuminate his life. Indeed in the fourth verse, J-Hope and Jungkook indicate that this romance has transformed them into ‘heroes’ and has helped to clarify the direction of their lives. What this boils down to is now BTS are ‘boys with love’. In other words, the strength of this relationship and the admiration of this female has empowered them to confront life from a more-positive, fortified disposition. Indeed as RM indicates in the bridge of the song, the love of this lady has given them “wings”, which are symbolic not only of their potential to reach greater heights but also to “fly” towards person they are singing to. As such, at the end of the day, BTS are no longer ‘boys in luv’, even though their strong affection for this significant other is more than evident. Rather they are now ‘with luv’, as in they have internalized the love of a special lady and are deriving the internal benefits thereof.

This track is based on a tumultuous romance the singer is engaged in. However, unlike other songs with a similar foundation, “Easier” takes a different approach. For instance, it does not seem as if any of the participants in this relationship are going anywhere. In fact the song suggests that they actually enjoy the conflicts which are part and parcel of their union. Or perhaps more specifically they love each other as they are despite the fact that they are constantly at each other’s throats. Moreover the singer does not express a desire to transform himself, i.e. be kinder to his partner. Rather he states that he is “never ever going to change” in addition to her likelihood of “stay(ing) the same”. Owing to the above, it is safe to say this song is not based on a call for the lovers to alter their personalities in the name of preventing conflict, although it is clear the singer is tired of fighting. Rather it has him debating whether it is “easier to stay” or “to go”. Or put differently, which is the ideal route – to terminate the relationship or to keep it ongoing? Yet despite making this inquiry which is central to the theme of the song, he has already concluded that he “doesn’t want to know”. In other words, even though the two of them go at it regularly and even publicly, he really has no desire for their relationship to end.

As far as the unorthodox title (“Watermelon Sugar”) of this song, it can theoretically be traced back to a lady whom Harry Styles dated named Camille Rowe. Miss Rowe referenced a book entitled “In Watermelon Sugar” (1968) as one of her all-time favorites. And fans have reason to believe that Rowe actually gifted this text to Harry in the past. But that being, said the actual meaning of the song as well as what exactly the title is supposed to symbolize is quite ambiguous. The simplest way to interpret it is as being a colorful metaphor for the way he feels about a significant other. But some researchers were quick to point out that “watermelon sugar” is also a colloquial term for a type of illegal substance. And considering that Styles has admitted to taking powerful drugs in the recent past, the belief does exist that this tune may actually be an ode to such powerful intoxicants. Indeed the chorus consists exclusively of him relishing a “watermelon sugar high”. So for now, these type of speculations exists as to what exactly the title refers to. But overall, if there’s one thing we can take away from this song is that whatever “watermelon sugar” may be, it is something the singer thoroughly enjoys.
