Hey tsr, I love this song! Well, looking at the lyrics I think he is speaking of God. More specifically, I believe his lyrics are comparing the theories of Intelligent Design and Big Bang. In the chorus he says "if you're not really here then I don't want to be either..." then he goes on to talk about "it's all just a bunch of matter...I wanna be next to you Black and Gold..." The black is the sky and the gold is the stars which he says are shining like beacons. He says he feels there is something beyond the black and gold, but if vision were his only validation then most of his life just isn't real. Pretty cool way of giving God the glory right?

Typically when a human falls in love, they naturally tend to become euphoric/happy and everything isn't just a bunch of matter, and instead it all makes sense somehow. Its the exact opposite of being depressed because those feelings make life meaningless and everything has no purpose etc. Basically he wants to be in love with God because the feeling of love helps him appreciate all the things mentioned at the beginning of the song. There is other ways to trigger those feelings though. Accomplishment/winning/helping/exercise/giving/competition/a mbition/drugs etc.

I think this song is about that the singer who is tired of his material existence, and all of the 'pleasures' it offers and speculations of this world, and all he wants to do is go back home back go Godhead. And serve the divine couple, Radha and Krishna. Black and Gold.

The song is nothing about god! He clearly conveys an understanding and belief in science. He's not singing about god, but about a woman. The only validation he has that the universe is real is his vision, but this isn't enough. He needs "feeling" to feel alive, E. G. Being "next to her"
Not having another consciousness to relate to makes him feel alone in the universe, but being in love gives life meaning.

When I was very drunk I wrote down the meaning from this song. I did not even know about the Annunaki & Enki but the next morning I found this is the oldest relgion on earth written in clay tablets. Like wohooo. Annunaki means: Those who from Heaven to Earth Came. And they where searching gold. They came with silver things like falling stars. They found Earth and animals, like apes who were black. They used some dna of them. And made them slaves. Then there came humans. Because it was a lot of work to find gold. So I think black & gold, I want to be next to you, when the apes climbed out of the trees and started talking etc. Have a lot in common with this story. But what happened with these gods like Annunaki, nobody knows exactly and it is mystery hihi. Good luck!
