Goodbye has such a finality about it & after that there are just memories. I heard Kenny Rogers perform it at Englebert's wife's Requiem it was poignant just pulling at your heart strings. Yes the words say I thought I had you for life, You & I forever, meaning you, my love was to out- live me, but all I have is memories

I fell in love with my wife (didn't know it at the time) when I was thirteen and she was twelve. We were buddies for three years and then started "Going steady". We married, had a wonderful married life amid all the chaos that surrounds rearing two children, the usual tiffs that every couple in love should have but, only loving each other more as the years went on, and, then, shortly before our fiftieth anniversary, out of the blue she got a brain haemorrhage and died within a couple of hours. This song charts our whole life together and reminds me, three years later, of the special life we had and just how much love we shared. They say grief is the price we pay for love and that grief will remain, forever!

My husband has Alzheimer at the age of 65 he is now 68 and I see him fading away every day and he knows it to. Eventually he will be in a better place where he won't be so sad. This song does not have any hidden meaning it says it plain and clear a person is leaving or has left, whether it is physical, or mentally or even death for that matter. That's it got to go and wipe my eyes.

I am trying to break up with my husband and I don't know how to do it.
I keep listening to this song. It makes me sad but it says it all. There were so many memeories, some good, some bad. We all dream of everlasting love. Something somewhere changes and we find ourselves wondering what went wrong. And so I got say, I'm just glad you came my way. It's not easy to say goodbye.
