Hercules is determined to find his place in the world, and he will "Go the distance" because he knows that he doesn't belong in the life he is living at that moment. He knows that if he puts every will to action in his mind and body, he will find his place.

If you were to walk a mile in another's person's shoes, and see how their life was, you would learn new things. Pocahontas is trying to tell John Smith that things aren't how he believes. Everything is different, and he hasn't realized that yet.
