I don't believe that the song isn't about one certain event like 9/11 or the war between the turks and the Armenians. I think its about all events like that. How terrible things are happening all over the world but people like us never seem to be too bothered by it because we sit back and watch it from home while other people live through it. [[our empty walls]] Serj is a very political person. Its obvious he has no respect for the American government or other government systems that act in the same manor. And why should he? Why should any of us? Why should anyone have respect for a government that would use war to solve problems? Doesn't that just make the problem bigger? I think he's making a point to express his opinion that the whole world is going to s*t because world leaders and their supporters are allowing it to.
