This verse has always bugged the hell out of me. The Hilltoppers version is not very well recorded and Otis's lyrics are hard to understand. Eddie Hinton's version is a little clear and he actually knew Otis. I'm hearing "Nine feet 'n 10 feet goin' across the hill, Nine feet a steps on a ten feet a hill, Ten feet comin' 'round the nine feet bend..."
The rest of that verse is still something of a mystery - except for 'His teeth fell out but his teeth stayed in" is pretty clear.
