This song deserves sooo much more credit than it gets. If it gets any at all.
It's about a battle we all go through. Feeling lost and confused. Feeling like everyone is against you. You start to feel paranoid and very fragile, but you can't show any of those emotions which gets harder as time goes by. You don't know who to trust so you keep yourself locked up behind your walls and don't let no one else in. This feeling starts to consume you though it becomes sort of unhealthy. You're never at ease and always watching your back. It's sort of a no win, no win situation.

Personally I think this song is talking about feeling distant to someone you used to be close to. Possibly a "girlfriend/boyfriend." It's about feeling deceived and betrayed lead into believing something that wasn't true all along. Also there's some hurt there because you feel like that "person" was just like you and understood you, but turns out they're just like everyone else. In the end you just give up and you're just like "hey, I'm going my own now. You go do you and I'll handle mine." You're hurt but you just don't care anymore.

I think he's talking about someone that he admires and looks up to very much. Someone that let him know how special he is but also kept him very grounded at the same time. Also I think this "person" helped him build his self esteem up a little bit, and made him feel more confident as his own person. The person he's singing to could be a best friend a father or even himself.
