Quite obviously about a person who doesn't ant to live anymore for whatever reason. They decide to kill themselves and say goodbye to the world. They figure there's no point in living anymore and they shouldn't even bother trying to get help because they don't matter. When tie comes, they just know that they're not worth life and the past doesn't matter anymore, so they "say goodbye". This is one of the most amazing, incredible songs I've ever heard. Metallica is one of the best - if not the best - classic metal-rock bands that you could possibly listen to. The guitar. It's absolutely fitting to the song and gives a perfect atmosphere! :)

Meaning

This is an amazing song. I listen to it just for the beat and music, but the lyrics are really deep too. Absolutely fantastic. So, about the song. It seems to be about a boy who has a bad view of the world now. He used to be able to do whatever he wanted (singing, writing, partying.) because it was fun; but now that he's older, he's stuck doing things he doesn't want to do, which gets frustrating and nerve-racking. Eventually, he starts to change everything about himself and goes crazy with anger, but inside he's horribly depressed. He can pray, but no "God" helps him, or anyone else. He commits suicide and there you go.
