This song is about loving somebody so much and for whatever situation in life, you are no longer able to be with them. Like in the music video where the two young love birds are forced to be apart because the girl's mother does not approve. Or the expecting mother who has a husband/boyfriend away in a war where she may never see him alive again. Or even the old widower who lost his wife and is in pain with grief. The song talks about the pain of seperation. But even though they go through it, they all find the strength from their love to go on and to eventually be reunited in some way shape or form. Even though their love is over or up in the air, their love truely never dies so long as the memory of loving that individual remains in their hearts.
